Cielo over at The House in the roses wrote a post about winter. I was so inspired to really think about what it is about winter that I love. Sure.. I hate winter driving and being cold and BIG gas bills but there are some beautiful things about it as well. Here is my comment that I left for Cielo.
"I do love winter. :) I love the nights closing in early.. feeling all safe and cozy inside of our home. I love to see the sun glisten off of the snow making it looking like diamonds shining away. I love the crispness in the air. The bright stars at night. Making snowmen & women with my kids. I love making all the nice comfort foods that are too heavy for the warmer months... What's not to love? Right?"
I know there is more. Much more that I love about winter. Watching the snowflakes float to the ground. Tobogganing down big hills. Tubing is ALWAYS a hoot as well.
I DO love winter. When it's over I'm more than ready for it to leave but, while it's here I try to enjoy it. (hope you all don't mind my black and white pic's. I just figured out that my camera can take them. So I'm all into the moody photo's right now. Bare with me... )
I'm going to post my FAVOURITE winter song. It was written and sung by Gordon Lightfoot but Sarah Mclachlan (another wonderful Canadian singer/songwriter) did such an awesome cover version that I always have playing. To me, this is one of the ultimate romantic songs. I hope you enjoy it.
Now, I'm not a big fan of Facebook but every so often someone writes something really cool on my wall that makes me smile.
This is what had me grinning this week...I love this!!! :) *I looked up "quirky" because I wasn't sure it was a good thing or not. Here is the defination.. "something that is strange/not normal but cool" ... I think I'm okay with that.*
Mike WhitwellHey Laura, i spent some time in Betty's room today with her class, and that Massimo is so cute. he's got your quirky sense of humour. while i was talking with the kids about art he kept giving me this discrete thumbs up, and little smile, as if to say, you're ok. what a cool kid.
It started off bad. I got ZERO sleep last night. I was just dozing off as my alarm started up.
Tony started up his usual "I'm sick. Can I stay home from school?" song and dance we go through almost every morning.
Massimo had a dental check up at 9:30am. He has an extra tooth and his teeth are REALLY crowded. This extra tooth is beginning to change colour which the dentist told me, means it has to be pulled. Plus he has 2 cavities between two molars. I was bawling my head off in the office and the dentist was acting like I was some kind of wack job nut! I couldn't even talk I was bawling so badly. I just hate for him to have to go through all of that. She is sending a letter to a dentist that can put him under. He will do it all at once and I'm assuming he'll be doped up or knocked right out. All that is going through my head is "BAD MOM"!!!
Then I get a phone call from Seb. He found out that some guy asked me out for coffee at the movie theater last night. I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings for about 6 months due to a skin condition. I guess Debbie told Sal , her husband,Seb's brother about it and he told Seb. Seb is furious. I'm not sure why. It's not like I accepted or anything. I told the guy thank you but I'm married.
It has NOT been a good day. Sigh.....Sorry for the "poor me".
I decided to make some Chili. Is there anything better on a cool, Autumn evening than a nice bowl of chili? Add some fresh bread and lemon loaf for dessert and *Mamma Mia*! Perfection. Don't forget a little bit of vino! (like I did)
P.S. My review of Cameron Diaz's Box is up on my other blog.
These pictures were supposed to be part of another post I'm planning on doing. However.. it was all too funny to me so I decided to post them on their own.
As you can see.. I made Rice Krispie Squares. I swear on all that is holy that I turned my back for about 6 seconds.. long enough to grab my camera to take a picture of the finished product .. and open it.. There was no one in the room but somehow.. in 6 seconds all those Squares were missing. It was a full pan when last I looked... 5 min's later they were all gone. ;)
